D'Urban Gin

D’Urban Scarlet Gin is the world’s first gin made with cascara (coffee cherries). It is South Africa’s most internationally awarded gin, having won gold medals in New York, London and San Francisco. This exciting gin is crafted in small batches using cascara sourced from Beaver Creek Coffee Estate on the KZN South Coast.  Cascara is the red, fleshy covering around the coffee bean, and adds subtle berry notes to our gin without being overpowering.

D’Urban Durban Dry Gin is a classic London Dry style gin, with a twist – our gin is made with a blend of 10 botanicals including African Rosehip. The juniper forward flavour is able to shine when mixed with all natural 031 Tonic, which is far bolder and more complex than store bought, artificially flavoured tonics. Durban Dry Gin has a strong citrus nose with distinctive but subtle juniper coming through. There’s a ‘sweetness’ and a distinct floral character in the background not found in most London Dry gins. The palate is deliciously oily and thick, covering the tongue thoroughly. At first, on the tip of your tongue, juniper hits you square in the palate – nice and fresh. The middle has a nice build, with a touch of a floral nature orris root, cardamon & African rosehip.  Lemon follows before giving way to a touch of heat, juniper in the back of the mouth with subtle pepper and cassia bark on the finish.  It is a well-rounded Classic London style gin. Both by name and by nature, Durban Dry Gin pays tribute to the beautiful city we call home. Furthermore, when designing the labels, we drew on Durban’s lush tropical foliage which provided inspiration for the illustration.

A first for South Africa, D’Urban Barrel Aged Gin is a London Dry style gin hand crafted with a blend of botanicals, including African rosehip, then aged in French oak barrels. D’Urban Barrel Aged Gin is aged for a limited time to retain the freshness that characterises a good gin. This unmistakeable gin has a subtle citrus nose, with juniper and some of the warmth of oak coming through. The palate is smooth, oily and thick, covering the tongue thoroughly. It begins on the tip of the tongue with the freshness of juniper. The middle has a nice build, with a touch of florals, natural orris root, cardamom & African rosehip. Subtle citrus follows, then gives way to a subtle spiciness in the back of the mouth, imparted by the French Oak. The oak mellows the spirit, generating tannins that transmit a light sweetness combined with vanillins and fruity flavours. It adds a hint of toasted almond flavour to the finish.
